Commercial Estimator (Rockville, VA)

The optimal candidate will estimate commercial projects and see them thru Contract Execution. This position requires a number of proficiencies and the candidate will be responsible for the following: procuring projects to bid, accurate take-offs, detailed estimates, submission of proposals, following up on submitted bids, and demonstrate some amount of salesmanship by advocating for The Stockner Group when following up on bids.
Work hours are generally Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm.
Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Bid & Estimating Duties:
•Makes decisions involving the exercise of discretion and independent judgment in reviewing, clarifying, validating, and addressing prospective projects with Chief Estimator/Upper Management, Business Developer, Architects, Engineers, Trade Contractors and Vendors.
•Responsible for acknowledging the ITB, responding to the prospective client, and updating/Maintaining the bid calendar.
•Cultivates a working relationship with corporate personnel internally, and with clients externally in a manner that encourages cooperative environment team effort and professional approach consistent with corporate mission, philosophy, and style.
•Exhibits discretion in Reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting bid documents to determine Scope of Work and uses independent judgment to formulate the estimating approach and bid strategy in a manner that enables the Stockner Group to be successful bidder.
•Decision making includes calculating and preparation of accurate plan take-offs, subcontractor/vender solicitation for pricing, labor costs per man hour, equipment, and other required statistical data to best position ourselves to win the war for work.
•Responsible for preparation of proposals and utilizes independent judgment in decision making to determine final price quotations for review and approval by the Chief Estimator/President/Director of Operations, in a manner that awarded projects are attained and are profitable.
•Maintains accurate, complete and updated project plans, specifications, correspondence, estimating documentation (to include quantity take-offs, subcontractor/vendor quotes, estimates), and proposals within policy and procedures on the server and in a project binder.
Post Bid Procedures:
•Maintains communication with prospective clients from time of bid submission to receipt of contract.
•Compiles all estimate backup for a particular project and conducts a handoff meeting with the Director of Operations, Project Coordinator, and the Installation Manager once a proposal has gone to contract.
•Assist in the development and maintenance of estimating guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures monthly in a manner that provides a mechanism for looking at estimating productivity, performance, and quality control.
•Read and understand blueprints.
•Must have experience in Commercial Estimating for the green industry.
•Must be familiar with Microsoft products (primarily Excel) and be comfortable sending, receiving and attaching large drawing files using email or file transfer programs.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with team members.
•Must be committed to process and procedure; be organized and a detail-oriented problem solver with strong work ethic.
