If you value your freedom you shouldn't support Barack Obama.

Obama's slogan of Hope and Change is so open ended and can be applied to almost anything that he lacks any substance to demonstrate what differences he can really make in office. His socialized national health care plan would actually make Americans pay more for services from extremely high taxes with less accessibility to services. He is pro-intervention and war, wants more power given to our central government, and supports the violation of individual rights, and bails out big banks and businesses at the tax payers expense. If you really value your freedom guaranteed to you in the Constitution, you wouldn't let any candidate let it become void. We need your help in supporting the values of Liberty and individual rights that made the U.S. the propserous nation it has become.

The Libertarian Party is seeking freedom minded volunteers in your area to work for change in your community and across the nation. Activities will include: scheduling, running, and attending fundraisers and meetup events, setting up and participating in Get Out the Vote operations, sign waves, calling talk radio programs, writing op-eds in local papers, coordinating with the local Libertarian Party, etc. If you are as concerned as we are about our country and our future, and want to do something about it, please reply to this ad. Your efforts will be appreciated.

"Liberals love to say things like, "We're just asking everyone to pay their fair share." But government is not about asking. It is about telling. The difference is fundamental. It is the difference between making love and being raped, between working for a living and being a slave. The Internal Revenue service is not asking anybody to do anything. It confiscates your assets and puts you behind bars if you don't pay." – Thomas Sowell, Forbes, July 1994

Brought to you by:
Richmond Metropolitan Habitat For Humanity

Become a Volunteer.

More than 31,000 volunteers have built with Richmond Habitat since our founding in 1986; that’s over 62,000 hands that have touched the lives of Richmond families.

Your time has a real value by keeping construction costs low through free labor and services.
On average volunteers save homeowners $50,000 – 60,000 on their mortgage payments.

Volunteers range from students to retirees, from skilled trades people to weekend do-it-yourselfers, from church, synagogue and mosque members to colleagues and co-workers from large and small businesses. The common thread is the desire to take part in something big and see the tangible results – to help build decent, modest homes for low income, working families.

We need 25 volunteers to make this possible! This is an exciting way to not only get involved, but to get your family, friends, co-workers, business associates, ANYONE with a Servant heart involved in REBUILDING RICHMOND!

We have several sponsors making this event possible and donating support, prizes (attendees enter a drawing to win a free real estate book “Find it, Fix it, Flip it by Michael Corbett and a free brand new cell Nokia 6030 by Cingular both donated by Cr8tive Realty) for our raffle- the first 15 to commit will get 2 entries into our prize drawing, a FREE lunch courtesy of GREAT WRAPS/REALVESTORS, and even Kim Occasio of Long & Foster/AM Radio announcing and inviting volunteers to join this effort!

If you wish to volunteer, or know someone, the age requirement is 14 & up (ages 14-17 must sign a special waiver upon attending) you must contact the organizers immediately.

Call now to reserve your volunteer commitment! Event is taking place, Saturday, August 23rd @8am
888 - 629 - 8282

Sponsored by:
To further assist with placement, Hanover Humane will market foster animals on its web site, in its Adoption Centers, etc. While animals are in foster homes, Hanover Humane provides food, veterinary care, etc. for the animal.

The Richmond Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program is seeking additional volunteer child advocates to be a “child’s voice in court.”

Richmond CASA Volunteers serve as advocates for children who have been abused and neglected in the City of Richmond. Unfortunately, there are more than one thousand children that appear in the Richmond City Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court as the result of abuse or neglect every year. We need additional volunteers to ensure that these children are protected from further harm. CASA volunteers advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children involved in judicial proceedings. The mission of Richmond CASA is to ensure safe and permanent homes for abused and neglected children who come before the Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

All children deserve a safe, permanent home. Help them get there. Speak up for abused and neglected children in court as a CASA volunteer.

Volunteers for Richmond CASA are thoroughly screened and trained to advocate for abused and neglected children. Interested candidates should be at least 21 years of age.

nonprofit org. that serves the homeless population in the city of Richmond is in need of help to keep our doors open. The mission of our organization is to provide housing and supportive services to a growing population of homeless men and women that are living with HIV/AIDS and dealing with substance abuse issues.as well as those returning from back to our community from incarceration. we have been operating for the last six years and have two houses located in the city, we have been home to many clients that we feel would have been dead or back in jail had it not been for the support and shelter that we have provided for them. At this time we are in a financial bind we have until Aug. 22,2008 to come up with 2,500 in order to keep our door open, we are not funded and operate solely on what a resident is able to pay towards program fees. Second Chances Supportive Services is a housing program that provides the security and stability that will enable our residents to become empowered to make smart decisions to enhance the quality of their lives in a friendly, supportive and drug free environment. Second Chance is located in the North Side of Richmond. These are two newly built homes accommodating up to fourteen residents.
I am looking for someone that is willing to become apart of helping us to enhance this vision we have of proving housing and supportive services to a population that society has labled as hopeless and helpless to become hopeful and helpful for themselves. please if you can help us or know of any one that can help us please contact : Terri Harrison -Executive Director@ 804-651-0666

Looking for people to start a local volunteer progressive think tank. (Richmond)

I have nothing worked out yet so this is literally in idea form only. I would like to start a volunteer think tank here in Richmond. At the start there will be no funding, just a group of thoughtful and intelligent individuals who are willing to volunteer their time and talents. The idea is to start a local group with a global vision. Understanding that local decisions can have global consequences, we will address issues ranging from local politics to international human rights abuses.

Here are some examples of issues that I would like the group to address:

*Environmentalism & Energy Policy
*Genocide, War Crimes, & Human Rights Abuses
*Fair Trade & Wages/Sweatshop Labor
*Human Trafficking
*Poverty & Homelessness
*Foreign Aid & Third World Development
*Domestic & Sexual Violence

Since this is only in idea form I am eagerly looking for people who are interested in helping me develop this group from the ground up. I need your help and I need your ideas. As I am still in pursuit of my first degree I do not expect you to have a degree of your own. I do expect you to be well informed.

Please contact me by phone if you are interested. I do not have internet access at home so if you email me I may not get back to you immediately.

ART 180 runs after-school art programs for young people in challenging circumstances. For our 10th anniversary we are running a unique community-wide art project where we are asking folks to make their own $10 bill about the change they'd like to see in the community and to match that with a real $10 donation to help ART 180 reach young people through art. We need help spreading the word about this project! Would you be willing to add a badge to your blog? (http://art180.org/ten_badges.shtml) Would you be willing to host a dollar-making party? (we'll provide templates and art supplies, you bring friends and encourage them to make a 10-spot and donate $10 for a good cause) Other ideas?

nonprofit org. that serves the homeless population in the city of Richmond is in need of help to keep our doors open.
I am looking for someone that is willing to become apart of helping us to enhance this vision we have of proving housing and supportive services to a population that society has labled as hopeless and helpless to become hopeful and helpful for themselves. please if you can help us or know of any one that can help us please contact : Terri Harrison -Executive Director@ 804-651-0666
project: The local host is an institution that works in different communities of the State of Michoacan. The education is an important tool to improve the life of the people in any country, and this school is aimed at bringing formal education to isolated communities where there are many social problems, lack of work, and where youngsters immigrate to the USA, looking for more opportunities. The school gives to the youngsters tools and experience to develop and improve their life in the town. In this frame, a group of international volunteers is invited to participate in different activities, not only ecological, but also cultural and social, together with the school students and the people who live in the villages. Moreover, they are invited to participate in awareness activities to promote the importance of taking care of the environment.

The international volunteers, along with the students of the institute, will explore the archeological site of the ‘Purepecha’ culture in the ‘Tangancicuaro’ valley, in order to promote the zone and its preservation not only locally, but also regionally and nationally.

Caring Families Needed for the 2008/2009 School Year

Pacific Intercultural Exchange is looking for caring families to host high school students from various countries for the 2008-2009 academic school years. There are few opportunities in this world where an individual can take an active hand in making the world a better place. This is such an opportunity. It is the time of year when the holidays are approaching and Americans everywhere are considering opening their hearts to their friends and neighbors. Pacific Intercultural Exchange (P.I.E.) asks local families to consider showing one of these foreign teens what American generosity is all about. Students from many countries have been staying with families all over the United States since August, and now a new group of international neighbors would like to add a little more to the community and leave in June with American passion, pride and sense of values.

There is no such thing as a typical host family. Whether you are a single parent, retired, have small children, teens, or no children at all, anyone can have a great experience hosting an exchange student.

All the students are prescreened: they speak English; have medical insurance, and their own spending money for any incidental costs. All these students require is a loving family to share their experience within our beautiful country. Help them learn the meaning of “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

P.I.E is looking for host families in your area. Those who are interested are urged to contact Pat Littrell at 1-877-534-3144 or email patlittrell@pieusa.org. Experience is not necessary, as an orientation and support will be provided.

Please help P.I.E. make the dreams of these young teens come true, with the opportunity to live and study in our country, and possibly aid in making a difference in their future and the future of the world.

Why should you take part in a clinical trial? Here are a few reasons:

Patients are well informed of their medical status while taking part in a clinical trial.

Patients often have the opportunity for more office visits at no cost during trials.

Patients may receive cutting edge drug therapies sometimes not yet available to the public.

Patients taking part in clinical trials open new doors for future medical treatments.

Patients can take part in clinical trials and receive special attention and treatment with no concern about cost.

Please help my mom! (Richmond & Nottoway County)

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am writing for your help. In May, my mom was in a near fatal burn accident. A barbecue grill blew up in her face while she was lighting it. She was in MCV's burn unit for over a month, most of the time in ICU on a respirator. She has since returned home despite the need for additional skin grafts which she's declined because of the extreme pain. She has a nurse and physical therapist visit daily. This woman has a heart and soul of gold. She always has, and to this day still, goes far out of her way to do anything within her power for other people, most recently welcoming two friends into her home to help them get back on their feet financially. While they have been a blessing in taking some of the responsibility off my shoulders in caring for her (since I'm an only child), they can't do everything. Before the accident my mom was the strongest, most physically active person I know for 60 years old. Even after knee replacement surgery, she maintained her physical and financial independence. She did flea markets, yard sales, and tended to her own yard work in the country. Now since this accident, she's home bound, not allowed to be in direct sunlight, and it may take 12-18 months of healing. I absolutely hate the fact that I can't be Superwoman and do all the things for her that needs to be done because she's my only family and I owe her my life. I work and attend college full time and this situation has become so mentally and physically exhausting. I need help!
I'm asking for anyone that can help to please do so. There are a few things that my mom needs taken care of in and around her home that I just can't do. She lives in Nottoway County, which is an hour away from Richmond so I can really only go there on the weekends. Though financial help would be very much appreciated, I'm not asking for money. I'm asking for a few items and even services. Please don't think this is crazy, but here's what's needed:

--	A riding lawnmower. The man that is currently cutting the grass for her does it with a push mower. She has ACRES of land and I can't believe he does it. She never had a need for a mower until she (finally) kicked her abusive boyfriend out of her house and he took his mower with him. Good riddens however.

--	A plumber. My mom lives in a mobile home and if anyone knows mobile homes, they're not of the highest quality construction. So one of her bathtubs is cracked and completely un-usable. My mom cares for my 80 year old grandmother and this is the tub in her bathroom. I'd love to see a stand up shower there because my mom can't help my grandmother bathe.

--	A mechanic. I've allowed my mom's friends that are staying with her to use my old car to transport my mom around, but it has a few problems with it. But the main problem is her minivan. Not only do the power windows not work, neither does the air conditioning.

--	A bricklayer. Not sure if that's actually what she needs but it sounds right. She has vinyl skirting around the foundation of her home which is in dire need of replacement. She and I actually installed it ourselves in the dead of winter years ago but it's now in shambles. Because of this, her pipes sometimes freeze in the winter. Last year she would just crawl under the house with a blow torch and thaw them. But now she can't even use her right arm or turn her head, let alone get under the house. I'm asking if someone would build a permanent foundation of brick or concrete for her. This would also help insulate the house. Her intention was to work and save money to have this done this year, but the plans have obviously changed.

--	An HVAC specialist. Long story short, her central air barely works. The temperature in her home sometimes rivals with the oven. We've had someone come out to service it and I believe put Freon in the system, but it didn't help. I think she needs a new unit or system.

--	A builder. She needs a garage or large storage shed built. She's never really had adequate outdoor storage and I hoped to get something built for her myself, but after doing a little pricing I've realized it's just not within my financial reach. I never knew a good shed was so expensive!

There are so many more little things that she needs done, but the above list are the biggest, most expensive things that I just can't do it. If you are someone that could help, or know someone that knows someone that could help, please contact me. I can only hope no one will prank call me, but I'm posting my phone number also. I don't know what else to do but rely on the goodness of strangers. Thank you so much in advance!
See details below:

Hanover County Department of Social Services is asking you to clean out your closets for the "Got You Covered" Clothing Event. Hanover DSS in partnership with our wonderful community partners (including AmeriCorps and Doswell Ruritan Club) is sponsoring a clothing drive and then the distribution of the collected clothing.

The drive will begin on 8/04/08 for collection of the gently used, clean clothing and new personal hygiene items through 8/20/08. We will also be collecting personal care items and basic necessity items (such as socks, stockings, underwear, soap, shaving items, cosmetics, cologne, shoes, ties, coats, belts and costume jewelry and hygiene products). The clothes and personal care items will be distributed to low income individuals and families on 8/23 (Saturday) at the Doswell Ruritan Club.

Our primary focus is to assist and meet the needs of our back to school and back to work citizens and their families. We will need approximately 30 volunteers to assist with the collection, cleaning, sorting, displaying and distribution of the items from 8/4 through 8/23. Volunteer opportunities are diverse and many. Lastly, we will need clothing racks and hangers for the event (these will be returned to the donor on 8/25). Volunteer hours will be documented.

If you have any questions about the event or what you can do to help, please do not hesitate to call (804-365-4109) or e-mail us at (mgc085@central.dss.state.va.us). Please drop off clothing and personal hygiene items at Hanover DSS, 12304 Washington Hwy, Ashland, VA 23005 or
at the Doswell Ruritan Club, 16433 Washington Hwy, Doswell, VA 23047. If you need someone to pick up your donation please call us to arrange a pick up time. Thank you for helping us with this great project!

Almost 11 years ago, I met an amazing man- then just a boy. It was your typical high school love story. Neither of us realized the magnitude of our feelings for eachother and how they would impact our entire lives. We were first seperated when he went off to college, then to the airforce. Our lives took very different paths from there and we lost touch. Recently, through the wonders of the internet... we have been reunited. He is deployed to South Korea for at least a year. We are fortunate enough to be able to talk online and on the phone, although thats getting expensive.
Most people spend their whole lives searching for a love this strong, this pure, and never find it. I lost mine, but I have now been given a second chance. The chance of a lifetime.
I am trying to raise the funds to travel to Korea to spend NewYears and his birthday (1/4) with him. The ticket and the expenses is going to be just under $2000.00. He has been fighting for our country for 8 years, its the least I can do is go see him... until he can come home safe.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bring the world to you door, host with AFS

Sharing daily life with a teenager from another country and culture is a rich and rewarding experience, and it's a wonderful way to bring more understanding into the world. If you've ever thought about welcoming an exchange student into your home and family, now's the time to learn more. AFS, the leading international high school student exchange program, needs families in our community to host high school students for an academic year or six months. Students arrive in August.

AFS students come from more than 40 countries and represent many different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

All kinds of families can host--two-parent households with young children or teenagers, single-parent families, families with adopted children, foster parents, as well as couples and single people who do not have children or who have grown children. One of the most important characteristics of a host family is being eager and excited to share your life and activities while providing the same kind of care, support, and comfort as you would to your own child or family members.

Local AFS Volunteers enroll students in high school and support students and their families to help both gain the most from their experience. In addition to host families, AFS needs people who are interested in becoming volunteer liaisons to work locally with families and their hosted students. Anyone interested in learning more about hosting or volunteering with AFS should visit www.afsusa.org or respond to this ad.

AFS Intercultural Programs/USA is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization. The mission of AFS is to work toward a more just and peaceful world by providing international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities through a global volunteer partnership.

Students like these will be arriving in our community:

Klaus from Denmark
Klaus enjoys computer role-playing and meets at a live RP club weekly. His other major interest is Magic trading cards. He leads his friends in these
activities. "Besides this there are books, books, and more books." Klaus is improving his drawing.
Klaus' keen sense of humor comes out in his application. He is quiet, happy, and intelligent. His mother describes a trusting, caring, and sensitive
young man. Klaus likes to be intellectually challenged.
Klaus wants to travel, to "see other places than little Denmark." He hopes his exchange year provides a "deeper understanding of US c
